Privacy Policy

The short version
Lamp & Line collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no server. Nothing you read, search for, highlight, or write leaves your device. What you keep is offered to your device's own Spotlight index so you can find it again — on the device, and switchable off. See Spotlight below.
What stays on your device
- The passage you are reading and where you are in it
- Your bookmarks, highlights, and notes
- Which days you have marked complete
- Your recent searches
- Your settings, including reminder time
- A record of what has been offered to Spotlight, so it can be kept in step
All of this lives in a database inside the app's own storage on your device. It is included in your device backups, encrypted the same way the rest of your device is. You can export all of it from Settings, and delete all of it from Settings.
What is sent anywhere
Nothing, with two exceptions that are not us:
- Purchases. If you buy Lamp & Line Full or leave a tip, Apple processes that. We never see your payment details, and we receive no personal information from Apple — only whether this device is entitled to Full.
- Apple Watch. If you use the Watch app, your preferences and bookmark list are sent between your iPhone and your Watch directly, over Apple's own connection between your paired devices. They do not pass through us.
Notifications
The daily reminder is a local notification scheduled on your device. There is no push service, and no token is sent anywhere.
Search
Search runs entirely against the copy of the Bible stored on your device. Your searches are never transmitted, and the recent-search list is local and clearable.
Spotlight
So that you can find a verse you kept without opening the app, Lamp & Line offers your bookmarks, highlights, notes, and recently read chapters to Spotlight — iOS's own search index, held on your device.
That index belongs to your device, not to us. It is not synchronised to iCloud, it is not readable by other apps, and nothing in it is ever offered to Apple for server-side search. It is removed when you delete the app.
One thing is worth knowing: because these entries are in Spotlight, iOS may surface them in Siri Suggestions, including on your Lock Screen. If you would rather it did not, turn Find in Spotlight off in Settings. That does not merely stop adding — it removes everything already there. Deleting your bookmarks, highlights, and notes removes them from Spotlight too.
Siri and Shortcuts
Lamp & Line offers a few actions to Siri, the Shortcuts app, and the Action button: opening a passage, opening Today, continuing where you left off, and reading out today's Lamp. They run on your device against the Bible and the daily readings already stored there.
If you speak to Siri, Siri handles your voice the way it does for every app, on Apple's terms rather than ours — see Apple's privacy policy. Nothing about what you have read, written, or searched for is sent as part of it.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, of any age.
